An Occasion for the Arts is Williamsburg’s premier art and music festival, bringing together artists, performers, students, and the community for a weekend filled with creativity and celebration. Now in its 57th year, this beloved tradition transforms Merchants Square and Duke of Gloucester Street into an open-air gallery and stage.

Festival Highlights

🎨 Fine Arts Show
Browse original works from more than 150 juried artists across painting, photography, glass, jewelry, wood, ceramics, fiber, sculpture, mixed media, and more.

🎶 Live Music & Performances
Two stages feature a full weekend of entertainment—from classical ballet and Celtic ensembles to Motown folk, multicultural drumming, and bluegrass favorites.

👩‍🎨 Youth Art Show
Celebrate the creativity of Williamsburg’s young artists with a curated exhibit of 2D and 3D works from elementary through high school students across Williamsburg, James City County, and Upper York County.

🧵 Community Art Project
Join artist Steve Prince and the Muscarelle Museum of Art for the 250th Great American Birthday Quilt—a monumental project honoring our nation’s 250th birthday through community storytelling and art.

Music & Performance Schedule

Experience live music and performances throughout the weekend on the Main Stage and Prince George Stage. From Flute Frenzy to the Williamsburg Youth Harp Society, from Irish ensembles to local singer-songwriters, there’s something for every taste.

Youth Art Show

Discover the next generation of artists in the Youth Art Show, featuring works from students across local schools. This year’s exhibition includes drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, wood, and metal.
