Spend a Saturday Morning in Merchants Square

September 25th, 2022

Forget the hustle and bustle of the work week and spend some time relaxing in Merchants Square this Saturday…or really any day, we’ll be here to welcome you. Saturdays in Merchants Square can be as relaxed or as lively as you’d like. Use our guide below to plan out your Saturday morning activities.

Grab a Coffee…or Two

There’s no better feeling than grabbing a quick cup of coffee to jumpstart your morning. And luckily for you, there’s plenty of places in Merchants Square for a hot (or iced) cup of coffee to begin the day. Wander into illy Café for a specialty drink from their espresso bar or enjoy an iced tea, the choice is yours. Illy Café is open on Saturdays from 7:00am – 7:00pm. Want something a little different? Head on over to Aromas for fresh brewed coffee, including unique top-shelf coffees from Ethiopia and Guatemala, or sip on some non-coffee drinks like European Sipping Chocolate, or a fruit smoothie. Aromas Coffeehouse is open on Saturdays from 7:00am – 8:00pm.

Eat a Sweet Treat

What’s the perfect way to enjoy a coffee? With a sweet treat, of course! On Saturday mornings, one of the best places to enjoy such a treat is at the Blackbird Bakery, which is home to a variety of sweet and savory pastries, like their to-die for cinnamon rolls or a baguette to take home and share with your family. Even better? Pair your morning cup of joe with their legendary bomboloni, Italian filled doughnuts with a rotating flavor menu! Regardless of what you choose at Blackbird, you won’t leave there hungry. Blackbird Bakery is open on Saturdays from 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Shop for Fun Souvenirs

Visit R.P. Wallace & Sons General Store, a gift store that’s been open for over 100 years. Whether searching for a new jacket, a water bottle, or anything in between, this store might be the perfect place to take home a Williamsburg memento. Known as one of the largest Simply Southern Retailers in eastern Virginia, you’ll find seasonal items, a large collection of novelty toys, snacks, and teas, as well as an array of ‘Williamsburg, VA’-branded products. R. P. Wallace & Sons General Store is open on Saturdays from 9:00am – 9:00pm.

Visit a Spice and Tea Exchange

Nestled next to La Piazza, treat yourself (and your senses) to the Spice and Tea Exchange of Williamsburg. Featuring unique teas, spices, sugars, and more, this niche little shop brews up fresh hot or iced teas for you to sip on while you shop! From their unique teas like “Banana Nut Muffin Herbal Tea” or “Root Beer Chai Herbal Tea” to their equally unique spice blends, including a Colonial Spice Blend featuring dried vegetables, herbs, and spices from the colonial era, there’s something for everyone to try at this little shop. The Spice and Tea Exchange is open on Saturdays from 10:00am – 6:00pm.

Think Towards Christmas

Whether you’re visiting in the summer and looking to escape the heat or if it’s right in the middle of the holiday season, take a peek in the Christmas Shop, located just next door to the Spice and Tea Exchange. There, you’ll find the popular Colonial Byer’s Choice Dolls, unique ornaments, and additional collectibles from regional, American, and international artisans. Next time you’re here, take a minute to stop in and enjoy Christmas year-round. The Christmas Shop is open on Saturdays from 9:00am – 9:00pm.

Think About Home

Did you know there’s a place to start planning and decorating your home in the heart of Merchants Square? Whether you’re looking for a room refresh or completely transforming your living space, visit Brick & Vine, WILLIAMSBURG Brand’s flagship store. There, you’ll find products “where trend meets tradition” that embody the spirit of Colonial Williamsburg interpreted for today’s world. Enjoy two floors of shopping space, featuring home décor, furnishings, refined accents, as well as gourmet food, craft beer and wine, jewelry, collectables, and more seasonal decorations. Brick & Vine is open on Saturdays from 10:00am – 6:00pm.

Peruse the Farmers Market

Spend some time wandering down Duke of Gloucester Street and take in the Williamsburg Farmers Market, now celebrating 20 years, which often features fresh produce, locally baked goods, and health products. Regale in over 40 vendors focused on serving the local Williamsburg population as you take in live music and welcoming vendors. The Williamsburg Farmer’s Market is open seasonally on Saturdays between 8:00am – 12:00pm.

Regardless of what time of year you visit Merchants Square, there’s always something going on here! So, come spend a Saturday morning with us and we’ll show you just how enjoyable a Saturday morning can be.

There are several options for parking in and around Merchants Square. During the Farmers Market on Saturdays, parking is free in lot P5, at the corner of Henry Street and Francis Street. Parking for the first hour is free in all parking locations and additional paid parking can be accessed via the Passport app.
